According to the USDA, more than 38 million individuals (including 12 million children) are experiencing food insecurity. Rates of food insecurity are substantially higher than the national average for single-parent households, and for Black and Hispanic households. Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina experience food insecurity near the U.S. average (10.7 percent). As of July 2022, the United States has met the criteria signaling a recession.
